ForHPDoperation,thebaseradioreceivesexternalfrequencyreferenceandnetworktimesynchronizationfromthe
activesitecontrollerovertheEthernetlink.Intheeventoflossoftheexternaltimeandfrequencyreferencesource,
thebaseradiocontinuestomaintainitsowntimeandfrequencystabilitytocontinueoperationsforaspecied
amountoftimewithoutdegradation.Afteraperiodoftime,operationcontinueswithminimaldegradation.

ForIPinterfacedconventionalbaseradios,aconventionalsitecontrollerprovidessupportfordispatchconsolesto
manageandcontroltheconventionalbaseradiosinK1/K2andM1/M2/M3typesystems,theconventionalsite
controlleronlyprovidessupportfortheconsoletomanageandcontroltheconventionalbaseradioswhenthe
primary(andoptionalsecondary)zonecontrollersarenotreachable.
Iftheconventionalsitecontrollerfailswhenitistheactivecallcontrollerineithertypesystem,thedispatchconsole
losesitsabilitytomanageandcontrolthechannelresources.However,subscriberradiosmaystillbeableto
maintaincommunicationsusingrepeatfunctionalityofthebaseradiosorwhenthebaseradiosareconnectedtoa
comparator.Thecomparatorsrepeatfunctionalityenableswidearearepeatforsubscribers.
