3.3.9GeneralElectrostaticDischargeRecommendations
Electroniccomponents,suchascircuitboardsandmemorymodules,canbeextremelysensitivetoelectrostatic
discharge(ESD).Motorolarecommendsthatanantistaticwriststrapandaconductivefoampadbeusedwhen
installingorupgradingthesystem.
IfanESDstationisnotavailable,wearanantistaticwriststrap.Wrapthestraparoundthewristandattachtheground
end(usuallyapieceofcopperfoiloranalligatorclip)toanelectricalground.Anelectricalgroundcanbeapieceof
metalthatliterallyrunsintotheground(suchasanunpaintedmetalpipe)orthemetalpartofagroundedelectrical
appliance.Anapplianceisgroundedifithasathree-prongplugandispluggedintoathree-pronggroundedoutlet.
Donotuseacomputerasaground,becauseitisnotpluggedinduringinstallation.
3.3.10FCCRequirements
Radiofrequency(RF)transmittersinstalledatsiteswithintheUSmustbeincompliancewiththefollowingFCC
regulations:
•Thestationlicenseeshallberesponsiblefortheproperoperationofthestationatalltimesandisexpectedto
provideobservations,servicing,andmaintenanceasoftenasmaybenecessarytoensureproperoperation.
•ThetransmitterERPshallnotexceedthemaximumpowerspeciedonthecurrentstationauthorization.
•Thefrequencyofthetransmittermustbecheckedduringinitialinstallationofthetransmitter,whenreplacing
modules,orwhenmakingadjustmentsthataffectthecarrierfrequencyormodulationcharacteristics.
ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassAdigitaldevice,accordingtopart15
oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstharmfulinterferencetoradio
communicationswhentheequipmentisoperatedinacommercialenvironment.
Thisequipmentgenerates,uses,andcanradiateradiofrequencyenergy.Ifnotinstalledproperlyandusedin
accordancewiththeinstructionmanuals,theequipmentmaycauseharmfulinterferencetoradiocommunications.
Operationofsomecompliantequipmentinaresidentialareamaycauseharmfulinterferencetoradio
communications,inwhichcasetheuserisrequiredtocorrecttheinterference.
