5.1AligningtheInternalFrequencyReference
Oscillator
Thetransceiveroptioncardwithinabaseradioorreceiverprovidesaninternal10MHzfrequencyreferencewhich
canbeusedastheprimaryorbackupfrequencyreferencesourceforthedevice.Forconventionalbaseradio/receiver
operation,italsoprovidestheanaloginterfacesandwildcardI/Os.
Afterabaseradioorreceiverisinstalledorafterthetransceiveroptioncardisreplaced,theinternalfrequency
referenceoscillatormustbealigned.
Thetransceiveroptioncardinternalfrequencyreferenceoscillatormustbealignedtowithin1ppb(partsperbillion).
Themeasuringequipmentusedtomakethisalignmentshouldbeaccuratetowithin1ppb.Thisaccuracytypically
requirestestequipmentwithadoubleovenoraRubidiumreferenceoscillator.
Thebaseradioorreceivermustbeturnedonforatleastoneweekbeforetheinternalfrequencyreference
oscillatorisaligned.
TheinternalfrequencyreferenceoscillatorforanOCXOtransceiveroptioncardmustbealigned:
•Uponinstallationofthebaseradioorreceiverforallbands.
•Onceeverytwoyearsafterinstallationfor700/800MHzsystems.
•OnceeveryveyearsafterinstallationforUHFsystems.
•VHFsystemsdonotrequirealignmentafterinitialinstallation.
TheinternalfrequencyreferenceoscillatorforaTCXOtransceiveroptioncardmustbealigned:
•UponinstallationofthebaseradioorreceiverforUHF.
•EveryyearafterinstallationforUHF.
Theinternalfrequencyreferenceoscillatorcanbealignedusingtwomethods:manualalignmentorautoalignment.
TheinternalfrequencyreferenceoscillatorcanonlybealignedonaGPW8000Receiverusingtheauto
alignmentprocedure.
