3.3.3GeneralPlacementandSpacingRecommendations
Thefollowingarerecommendationsforplacingequipmentatasite:
•Placeeachrackonarm,level,andstablesurfaceandbolttherackstogether.
•Usecorrectmountinghardwareandshimstopreventrackmovement.
•Usestrainreliefwheninstallingandpositioningcablesandcordstohelpensurethatnointerruption
ofserviceoccurs.
•Provideanappropriateamountofspacearoundallcomponentstoallowforproperairow,cooling,and
safeaccesstoequipment.
•Locatethesiteracksandotherequipmentwithenoughspacingtoallowaccessforservice.
Properspacingofequipmentisessentialforeaseofmaintenance,andsafetyofpersonnel.Spacing
requirementshavebeenestablishedtomeettheNationalFireProtectionAssociations(NFPA)
Code,andtheAmericanSocietyofHeating,Refrigerating,andAirConditioningEngineers
(ASHRAE)standards.Alsoadheretoanylocalregulationsthatapplytotheinstallation.
•Locatethesysteminanareathatisfreeofdust,smoke,andelectrostaticdischarge(ESD).
•SeetheMotorolaStandardsandGuidelinesforCommunicationSitesmanualfordetailsonthesespace
requirements.
3.3.4GeneralCabinetBracingRecommendations
Useallsuppliedbracinghardwarewheninstallingarackorcabinetandsecureallequipmentwithinarackorcabinet.
Ifadditionalequipmentneedstobeinstalled,refertothesystemdesigndocumentprovidedbytheeldengineeror
consulttheMotorolaFieldRepresentative.
Subsystemcabinetsareself-supportingstructures.Inareassubjecttoseismicactivity,additionalbracingofthe
cabinetmayberequiredtopreventitfromtipping.However,thebracinghardwaremustbelocallyprocured.There
arenospecicprocedureswithinthismanualforbracingcabinetsinactiveseismicareas.

Whenandwheretouse:
