3.2GeneralSafetyPrecautions
CompliancewithFCCguidelinesforhumanexposuretoElectromagneticEnergy(EME)at
TransmitterAntennasitesgenerallyrequiresthatPersonnelworkingatasiteshallbeawareofthe
potentialforexposuretoEMEandcanexercisecontrolofexposurebyappropriatemeans,such
asadheringtowarningsigninstructions,usingstandardoperatingprocedures(workpractices),
wearingpersonalprotectiveequipment,orlimitingthedurationofexposure.Formoredetailsand
specicguidelines,seeAppendixAoftheMotorolaStandardsandGuidelinesforCommunications
Sitesmanual.
Observethefollowinggeneralsafetyprecautionsduringallphasesofoperation,service,andrepairoftheequipment
describedinthismanual.Followthesafetyprecautionslistedandallotherwarningsandcautionsnecessaryfor
thesafeoperationofallequipment.Refertotheappropriatesectionoftheproductservicemanualforadditional
pertinentsafetyinformation.Becauseofthedangerofintroducingadditionalhazards,donotinstallsubstituteparts
orperformanyunauthorizedmodicationsofequipment.
Theinstallationprocessrequirespreparationandknowledgeofthesitebeforeinstallationbegins.Review
installationproceduresandprecautionsintheMotorolaStandardsandGuidelinesforCommunications
Sitesmanualbeforeperforminganysiteorcomponentinstallation.
Alwaysfollowallapplicablesafetyprocedures,suchasOccupationalSafetyandHealthAdministration(OSHA)
requirements,NationalElectricalCode(NEC)requirements,localcoderequirements,safeworkingpractices.Also,
goodjudgmentmustbemadebypersonnel.Generalsafetyprecautionsincludethefollowing:
•Readandfollowallwarningnoticesandinstructionsmarkedontheproductorincludedinthismanualbefore
installing,servicing,oroperatingtheequipment.Retainthesesafetyinstructionsforfuturereference.
•Iftroubleshootingtheequipmentwhilepowerison,beawareofthelivecircuits.
•DonotoperatetheradiotransmittersunlessallRFconnectorsaresecureandallconnectorsareproperly
terminated.
•AllequipmentmustbeproperlygroundedinaccordancewiththeMotorolaStandardsandGuidelinesfor
CommunicationsSitesmanualandspeciedinstallationinstructionsforsafeoperation.
