Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting chart will cover basic engine
troubleshooting information. A separate engine manual,
prepared by the engine manufacturer, is supplied with
this machine. Refer to the engine manufacturer’s manual
for further engine troubleshooting information.
Condition Probable Cause Remedy
Engine does not start. Choke not set properly. Refer to the engine manual for correct
choke usage.
Fuel tank empty. Fill fuel tank with fresh, clean gasoline.
(See “Gasoline” on page 2-7.)
Fuel shutoff valve closed. Open shutoff valve.
Engine on/off switch in OFF position. Move engine on/off switch to ON position.
E-stop switch in OFF position. Move E-stop switch to ON position.
Engine problem. Refer to the engine manual.
Engine is hard to start, runs erratically,
stalls, looses power, or stops.
Choke not set properly. Refer to the engine manual for correct
choke usage.
Dirty or incorrect fuel. Drain fuel tank and fill fuel tank with fresh,
clean gasoline. (See “Gasoline” on
page 2-7.)
Loose wire connections. Check wiring connections.
Air intake clogged. Refer to the engine manual for air cleaner
service information.
Spark plug worn, dirty, or improperly
gapped.
Refer to the engine manual for spark plug
service information.
Vent in fuel filler cap plugged. Clean fuel filler cap.
Mower does not engage when the OPC
bail is engaged.
Park brake is engaged. Release park brake. (Refer to Operators
Manual.)
Throttle/clutch cable is not adjusted
properly.
Adjust throttle/clutch cable. (See “Throttle
and Clutch Control Cable Adjustment”
on page 3-4.)
Reel clutch is not engaged. Engage reel clutch. (Refer to Operator’s
Manual.)
Traction/reel drive clutch faulty. Replace clutch. (See “Engine and Clutch”
on page 3-7.)
Problem in power train. Repair as needed. (See “Troubleshooting”
on page 5-3.)
