Chapter 5 Disassembly and Replacement
WARNING
When servicing your spectrophotometer, always observe proper safety precautions.
ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER FROM THE INSTRUMENT WHEN REMOVING, REPLACING, OR
REPAIRING A COMPONENT OR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD.
USE CAUTION WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR THE LAMP POWER SUPPLY. HIGH VOLTAGE IS
PRESENT.
ALWAYS WEAR UV PROTECTIVE GLASSES WHEN VIEWING THE UV LAMP.
NEVER TOUCH OPTICAL SURFACES.
FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR PROPER HANDLING OF ELECTROSTATIC
SENSITIVE DEVICES.
USE ONLY FUSES OF THE PROPER RATING.
DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL, EMERY CLOTH, SANDPAPER, OR FILES WHEN CLEANING THE
INSTRUMENT.
WHEN SERVICING IS COMPLETE, THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE INSTRUMENT FOR LOOSE
BOARDS OR CABLES, COLD SOLDER JOINTS, LOOSE HARDWARE, WIRE BITS, AND LOOSE
OR MISSING SCREWS.
External Covers
WARNING
When in operation, certain internal components, such as the lamp and Power Supply,
become hot and may still be hot when the unit is opened for servicing. Avoid touching these
areas. Failure to observe this warning may result in burns.
• Make sure the power cord is unplugged from the receptacle.
NOTE: Before removing the covers, make sure all samples and sample holders have been
removed from the spectrophotometer.
• Open the cover over the sample compartment and remove any sample cuvettes.
• Remove the cell holder from the sample compartment.
