Chapter 6 Optical Alignment
WARNING
When servicing your Series spectrophotometer, always observe proper safety precautions
ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER FROM THE INSTRUMENT WHEN REMOVING, REPLACING,
OR REPAIRING A COMPONENT OR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD.
USE CAUTION WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR THE LAMP POWER SUPPLY. HIGH
VOLTAGE IS PRESENT.
ALWAYS WEAR UV PROTECTIVE GLASSES WHEN VIEWING THE UV LAMP.
NEVER TOUCH OPTICAL SURFACES
FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR PROPER HANDLING OF ELECTROSTATIC
SENSITIVE DEVICES.
USE ONLY FUSES OF THE PROPER RATING.
DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL, EMERY CLOTH, SAND PAPER, OR FILES WHEN CLEANING
THE INSTRUMENT.
WHEN SERVICING IS COMPLETE, THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE INSTRUMENT FOR
LOOSE BOARDS OR CABLES, COLD SOLDER JOINTS, LOOSE HARDWARE, WIRE BITS,
AND LOOSE OR MISSING SCREWS.
To perform the optical alignment, start with the power off. Remove the main cover, the mono cover, the
spill tray, and the filter wheel. Then turn on the power to the unit. The lamp on the Visible only models will
remain lit.
Flashing the Lamp for Alignment - Preferred Method
Note: This method is not available on older version of the instrument firmware. The best way to
flash xenon lamps to align the optics on older systems is to upgrade them to the current
firmware version. The minimum versions are:
Spectronic GENESYS 10 UV 2.000
Spectronic GENESYS 10 VIS 2.000
Spectronic BioMate 3 2.000
Spectronic GENESYS 10UVscanning 1.100
Spectronic GENESYS 6 1.100
Spectronic GENESY 10 Bio 1.000
1. Connect a computer to the instrument
2. Start Service Diagnostics
3. Click Alignment Tool
