S-399 - Spectronic GENESYS 10 and Spectronic BioMate 3: New Firmware

REFERENCE: ECO 71863
PROBLEM:
1. Earlier revision of firmware will not work with new EDT display (335901-
657S).
2. Error in Performance Validation test – Internal Wavelength tolerance (is
±1nm at 883nm, should be ±2nm).
SYMPTOM/
CAUSE:
Problem 1 - can cause the display to be blank when the unit is turned on (usually
after powering-down an instrument that has been on beyond the warm-up period).
Problem 2 - can cause the instrument to fail while still within the published
specifications.
SOLUTION:
Release of new firmware: 1.103 for Spectronic GENESYS 10; 1.001 for
Spectronic BioMate 3
PRODUCT
AFFECTED:
All Spectronic GENESYS 10 spectrophotometers of Serial Number < ###D260###
were manufactured with firmware <1.103 rev.
All Spectronic BioMate 3 spectrophotometers of Serial Number < ###D260### were
manufactured with firmware <1.001 rev.
APPLIES TO:
Repair at customer site Repair at Depot
The new firmware will work with the new EDT display (see TSB S-391), and has the
correct Internal Wavelength Tolerance of ±2nm at 883nm.
If the unit has the new EDT display which shows the problem above, the unit should
be sent to the Service depot for upgrading since the upgrade will require the
installation of the ROM IC and wavelength recalibration using the appropriate
standards and software.
