VLANOverview
TheVirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)protocolisabasicprotocoloflayer-2switching
equipment,whichenablestheadministratortodivideaphysicalLANintomultipleVLANs.
EachVLANhasaVLANIDtoidentifyituniquelyintheentireLAN.MultipleVLANsshare
theswitchingequipmentandlinksofthephysicalLAN.
Logically,aVLANislikeanindependentLAN.AllframeowsinthesameVLANare
restrictedinthisVLAN.Cross-VLANvisitcanonlybeimplementedthroughforwarding
onlayer3.Inthisway,thenetworkperformanceisimproved,andtheoverallowinthe
physicalLANiseffectivelylowered.
TheVLANhasthefollowingfunctions:
lReducesthebroadcaststormsofnetwork.
lEnhancesthenetworksecurity.
lProvidescentralizedmanagementandcontrol.
TheZXR102900Ealsosupportsthetagged-basedVLAN.ThisisamodedenedinIEEE
802.1Qandisauniversalworkingmode.Inthismode,thedivisionofVLANisbased
ontheVLANinformationabouttheport(PVID:portVLANID)ortheinformationinthe
VLANtag.Also,theZXR102900EsupportsthedivisionofVLANaccordingtothepacket
protocoltype,thatis,protocolVLAN.
