TheVLANMapping,namelyNtoOneVLANmapping,implementstheVLANconvergence
functionbyestablishingmappingbetweencustomerVLANandserviceproviderVLANby
replacingtheouterVLANtagsinthedataframes.Thisway,customerservicescanbe
transmittedaccordingtooperator’snetworkplanning.
DuetothelimitedVLANresource,theVLANsofserviceprovidernetworkandcustomer
networkareplannedseparately.The“customerVLAN”mentionedinthischapterrefersto
CVLANusedincustomernetwork,whilethe“serviceproviderVLAN”istheSVLANused
inserviceprovider’snetwork.
Differentservicesofhomeusers(Internet,IPTV,VoIP)aretransferredthroughdifferent
VLANsintheaccessnetworksofMAN,seeFigure5-28.AstherearelimitedVLANsin
operator’snetwork,theVLANconvergencefunctionneedstobefullledintheswitches
inaccesslayertotransmitthesameservice,whichistransferredbydifferentusersin
differentVLANs,throughoneVLAN.
