GARP/GVRPOverview
TheGenericAttributeRegistrationProtocol(GARP)isatypeofgenericattribute
registrationprotocol,whichdistributesVLANandmulticastMACaddressdynamicallyto
thememberinthesameswitchingnetworkbyapplyingthedifferentapplicationprotocols.
GARPVLANRegistrationProtocol(GVRP)isatypeofapplicationprotocoldened
bytheGARP,whichmaintainsVLANinformationintheswitchdynamicallybased
ontheGARPprotocolmechanism.AllswitchessupportingGVRPcanreceivethe
VLANregistrationinformationfromotherswitchesandupdatelocalVLANregistration
informationdynamicallyincludingthecurrentVLANonthisswitchandtheportsin
thisVLAN.AllswitchessupportingGVRPcanbroadcastthelocalVLANregistration
informationtootherswitches,sothat,theVLANcongurationsofalldeviceswiththe
GVRPinthesameswitchingnetworkhaveaconsistentinterworkingaccordingtothe
demand.
