STPOverview
TheSpanningTreeProtocol(STP)isapplicabletothenetworkwithdataloops.Ituses
certainalgorithmstoblocksomeredundantlinks,thuspreventingpossiblenetworkloops.
TheRapidSpanningTreeProtocol(RSTP)isdevelopedonthebasisofcommonSTP ,
andprovidesafasterspanningtreeconvergencebyusingamechanisminwhichtheport
statecanberapidlychangedfromBlockingtoForwarding.
TheMultipleSpanningTreeProtocol(MSTP)isdevelopedonthebasisofRSTPandSTP .It
introducesdomainsandinstances,andrecognizesVLANID.Thewholenetworktopology
structurecanbeplannedintoaCommonandInternalSpanningTree(CIST),whichis
dividedintoCommonSpanningTree(CST)andInternalSpanningTree(IST).
ManydevicesenablingMSTPconstructMultipleSpanningTree(MST)areasinthe
switchingnetwork.Whenthedevicessatisfythefollowingconditions,theycanbe
consideredtoexistinanMSTarea.AswitchingnetworkcancovermanyMSTareas.

MSTareasintheswitchingnetwork.AnMSTareacanbeconsideredasaswitch,aCST
isaspanningtreewhichisgeneratedbySTPandRSTPprotocolcalculation.AllIST s
andCST sarecalledasCommonandInternalSpanningTree(CIST).ACISTisasingle
spanningtreeusedtoconnectallswitches.
InthisMSTPtopologystructure,anISTcanserveasasinglebridge(switch).Inthis
way,aCTScanserveasanRSTPfortheinteractionofcongurationinformation(BPDU).
MultipleinstancescanbecreatedinanISTareaandtheseinstancesarevalidonlyinthis
area.AninstanceisequivalenttoanRSTP ,exceptthattheinstanceneedstoperform
BPDUinteractionwithbridgesoutsidethisarea.
