ERPSOverview
TheERPSmechanismisasfollows:
lWhenthenetworkisaringnetworkthatisoperatingproperly,somelinksinthenetwork
areblockedtopreventloopsbetweenswitches.
lIfthenetworkbecomesfaulty,thebackuplinksareunblockedtoprotecttheinter-node
communication.
ThebasicconceptsinERPSareasfollows:

AnRPLisalinkblockedtopreventaloopinthecaseofnofaultorrequest.
lRPLownernode(RPLprimarynode)
AnRPLownernodeisanodeonanRPL.ItisusedtoblocktheportthathasRPL
enabled.
lRPLneighbornode(RPLneighbornode)
AnRPLneighbornodeisusedtoblockoneendofanRPL.TheotherendoftheRPL
isblockedbytheRPLownernode.
lManualswitchingcommands
TheERPSprotocolsupportstriggeringtheprotocolcalculationbyusingmanual
switchingcommands:ForcedSwitch(FS)andManualSwitch(MS).
lWTRtimer
Inrevertivemode,theWTRtimerisusedtopreventthefrequentoperationofthe
protectionswitchduetoanintermittentdefect.
lWTBtimer
Whenthecorrespondingfunctionofthedeviceisrestoredafteranoperationcommand
(suchastheFSorMScommand)isexecuted,thedelaytime(calledWTBtime,guard
timertimeplusveseconds)mustbesetlongenoughtoreceivepotentialFS,SF ,or
