ThemanagementfunctionisimplementedthroughthedenedMEPandMIP .
Anetworkisdividedintoacustomerdomain,providerdomain,andoperatordomain.
Alevelbetween0-7isdesignatedforeachdomain.Thedomainleveldeterminesthe
inclusionrelationbetweendomains.Adomainwithahigherlevelcanincludedomains
withlowerlevelsbutnotviceversa.Thedomainswiththesamelevelcannotincludeeach
other.Thismeansthatalldomainscanbetangential(internallyorexternally)andinclusive
butcannotbeintersecting.
ThemessagetypesdenedintheCFMprotocolinclude:
lContinuityCheckMessage(CCM):AmulticastCFMprotocoldataunit.Itis
periodicallysentbyanMEPtoconrmtheconnectivityofMEPinthesameMA.An
MEPreceivingaCCMmessagedoesnotreplytothismessage.
lLinkTraceMessage(LTM):AmulticastCFMprotocoldataunit.ItissentbyanMEP
totracethepathfromtheMEPtotheMP .EachMPalongthepathgeneratesanLRT
asaresponse.Thisendsuntilthemessagereachesthedestinationorcannotbe
furtherforwarded.
lLinkTraceReply(LTR):AunicastCFMprotocoldataunit.ItissentbytheMPreceiving
anLTMtoreplytotheLTM.
