lMaster:TheporttypeisintroducedintheMSTPprotocol.Whenmultipledifferent
areasexist,themasterportistheportwiththeminimalcosttotheroot.
lRoot:Theportthathastheminimalcosttotherootbridgeandtakeschargein
forwardingdatatotherootnode.Whenmultipleportshavethesamecosttotheroot
bridge,theportwiththelowestportprioritybecomestotherootport.
lDesignated:Theporttransmitsdatatotheswitchdownward,andsendstheSTP
protocolmessagetomaintainthestateofSTP .
lBackup:TheportreceivestheSTPmessage,whichprovesthatthereexistsaloop
totheportitself.
lAlternate:TheportreceivesexcessSTPprotocolmessagesfromotherequipment.
However,whentheoriginallinkfails,theportbecomestransmittingandmaintainsthe
networktakingtheplaceofthefaultyport.
lEdged:Theportisusedtoconnecttheterminalequipment,forexample,PC.The
portdoesnotparticipateinthecalculationbeforetheSTPisstable,andthestatecan
beswitchedfast.
