Appendix C
13. Type (0-7) The item type describes the nature of the item being
controlled. Items can be controlled either by the
piece or by the unit of measure (footage, weight,
etc.). There are 8 item types:
0 =
All items sold by the each. These items do not
have a conversion factor.
1 = Items that have a conversion factor. The
quantity sold is multiplied by the conversion
factor to get total units. These items are
usually priced per hundred or per thousand
feet. For example:
Item Qty Conv Factor Units (Footage)
2 x 4 - 8 Fir Larch 100 5.333 533
1/2 x 4 8 CDX 100 32.000 3200
(The following item types require additional
dimensions to be entered as a tally in Point of
Sale and Purchasing and Receiving. If the
conversion factor is not zero, it will be used in
calculating the total units. Inventory is controlled
by units.)
2 = Items that are sold and purchased by the
random length but are controlled by the
specific length. The actual item relieved or
received is determined by the length as it is
entered as part of the tally. Type 2 items are
memo items for inventory control. This item
is usually used for lumber items such as:
Item # Description Item Type
51080100 2 x 4 RL Doug Fir 2
51080108 2 x 4 - 8 Doug Fir 1
51080110 2 x 4 - 10 Doug Fir 1
51080112 2 x 4 - 12 Doug Fir 1
The item number for the random length item
(type 2) must end in 00 and each individual
length item (type 1) must end in the two digits
representing the length. As the tally is
entered at POS, the length portion is
substituted for the last two digits of the item
number to find the proper item in inventory to
be relieved or received.
For example: You sell the following tally on
item #51080100:
208/8 416/10 416/12
The computer will reduce inventory as follows:
Dimensions 14 413
