13.2. Overview of mounting steps
Requirement: The vehicle/installation location must be prepared (e.g. connection to the ignition,
correct voltage, etc.)
We recommend the following sequence for the mechanical and electrical installation:
− Determine a suitable mounting position for the DLT-V83.
− Secure device mounting (mounting bracket, RAM mount; optional).
− Connect external accessories to the DLT-V83.
− Install an easily accessible disconnecting device, such as a switch.
− Connection to the power supply.
− Seal cable bushings with cable grommets and dummy grommets.
− Close the DLT-V83 with cable cover.
− Mount the DLT-V83 on the device mounting bracket (follow mounting instructions).
13.3. Connecting external accessories to the DLT-V83
The DLT-V83 must be disconnected from the power supply:
− before external devices (e.g. scanner, keyboard) are connected or disconnected.
− before using the interfaces underneath the antenna.
− and before the DLT-V83 is connected to a network.
NOTICE: Property damage
Observe the following when connecting/removing external devices:
Only use accessories that have been tested and approved by Advantech for the respective DLT-
V83.
The DLT-V83 may not be connected to the power supply if external devices are being
connected/removed (not applicable for USB devices). Otherwise considerable damage could be
caused to both the DLT-V83 and the peripheral devices.
Make sure that peripherals with their own power supply are either switched on at the same time as
the DLT-V83 or after the start of the DLT-V83.
Otherwise, you must ensure that a backflow from the external device to the DLT-V83 cannot take
place.
Only power up the DLT-V83 when all devices have been connected and the DLT-V83 has been
closed correctly (remember the cable cover!). Otherwise, you may damage the
DLT-V83.
Please observe the mounting instructions supplied with the optional accessories.
