AVR8414 Operation Manual – Rev O
Dimming Midpoint
Day and Night mode each possess 16 steps of control over the entire dimming range. The user
may set the dimming midpoint value for both day and night independently to control how granular
these steps are for the top half and bottom half of the dimming range. This allows users to select
which portion of the dimming range they want to have fine-tune control over. 16 is the brightest
setting and 1 is the dimmest setting. A midpoint value of 8 means that the dimming steps will be
equally divided into 8 steps for the top half of the dimming range and 8 for the bottom half of the
dimming range.
Use the Day/Night button to select the mode to which the midpoint value applies. The line labeled:
“SET NT DIM MIDPT” in the image above indicates that the current Night (NT) midpoint value is 4.
This means the bottom half of the dimming range will have 4 steps of granularity and the top half
of the dimming range will have 12 steps of granularity, giving the user more control over the top
half of the dimming range.
The dimming ramp illustration (Figure 17, left) shows a linear ramp of 16 steps with a midpoint of
8. This linear ramp has smooth steps and equal luminance level steps above and below the
midpoint.
