AVR8414 Operation Manual – Rev O
The dimming ramp illustration (Figure 17, right) shows the midpoint has been changed from a
level of 8 to 12. The previous linear ramp is shown in gray. The shallow ramp, shown in dark
blue, results in 12 steps for the dimmest 50% of the range and 4 steps for the brightest 50%.
This midpoint value provides finer dimming control granularity on the darker end of values.
Figure 18 illustrates how the dimming steps are distributed for various midpoint values.
Rheostat Limits
The 28V rheostat dimming range can be adjusted using the 28V page accessible from the
Softkey 2 button (DIM). Once on the DIM page, press Softkey 3 to access a list of dimming
options and use the encoder to scroll to and select 28V. This page has two fields that allow the
user to adjust the maximum and minimum voltage scaling.
For example, if the user selects 5V for the minimum and 14V for the maximum, the brightness
will be at its maximum when the potentiometer has reached greater than or equal to 14 volts
(V), and the brightness will be at its minimum when the voltage reaches less than or equal to
5V. The brightness will still follow the curve specified in the midpoint setting. If a midpoint of 8
is selected using the min/max voltages in this example, then when the voltage is 9.5V the
brightness will be at 50% of the maximum luminance.
