Chapter 4 Electrical Overview and Panels
Best Practice Methods
It is good practice to provide your Electrician with a “Scope of Work” prior to beginning the
installation. If you do not have a scope of work outlined, you can contact your Belanger®
Representative for a sample scope of work for the electrical system requirements.
Refer to your supplied electrical prints for installation details.
ALL CAT-5E COMMUNICATION CABLE MUST BE STRANDED.
DO NOT USE SOLID CORE WIRE.
Proper Grounding
It has been our experience that issues associated with improper electrical grounding can cause
back-feed conditions within the Cube® system panels. We require keeping the following
grounding techniques in mind during installation to prevent system performance issues related
to poor or improper grounding.
General Grounding
When installing the main power feed to items such as “Spot Free Systems”, “Water Reclaim
Systems”, “External VFD controlled devices” or “Motor Starter Enclosures” never use the
ground bar / ground terminals in the Panels as a path or connection point to the other
electrical panel grounds. Provide external systems with their own ground.
Motor Grounding
Motor ground wires terminate in the control panel that controls them and directly on the
motor. These ground wires must not be joined with the ground wires of any other device or
component. Do not join these ground wires with any conduit or junction boxes. If the conduit
and junction boxes (hubs) require grounding, supply them with their own designated
ground wire.
Inspect all 3-phase motors for proper low volt configuration. Make sure ALL motor grounds
are isolated back to the Panel. Never group or splice motor grounds together.
VFD Grounding
Supply the Carriage Panel with the largest diameter ground wire possible. Although
electrical code allows a ground wire with a smaller diameter than required to carry the
Supply Full Load Amps, a larger wire provides a better ground which prevents intermittent
problems due to electrical noise generated using Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s).
