Troubleshooting
Error Messages
Head temperature outside
range
Printhead too hot Printhead has reached
maximum operating
temperature. Let printhead cool
down for approximately 10
minutes, then re-initiate print job.
Incompatible labels for
selected Label Type
The selected Label Type is not
compatible with the installed
label supply.
Install a label supply that is
compatible with the current label
type. The current label type is
shown above the label on the
touchscreen. See Chapter 5:
“Label Types” on page 62.
Invalid barcode character The character typed is not valid
data for the type of barcode.
Press the backspace key
and type a different character.
Invalid terminal repeat value
entered
The value entered is out of the
range.
The acceptable range is
between the minimum of 0.15
inch to the maximum of 40
inches.
Label and ribbon color are
identical
Ribbon color and label color are
the same. Printing will not be
visible.
Replace ribbon or label supply.

page 16.
Label feed error The leading edge of the labels or
the notch between labels is not
detected. The label supply is
positioned incorrectly.
Reinstall the label supply
making sure that the leading
edge is securely under the ribs
(at least up to the black line),
and that the label supply covers
the sensors See “Loading
Labels” on page 16 and Figure
2-1“Make sure the sensors are
covered.” on page 18.
Out of labels The leading edge of the labels or
the notch between labels is not
detected. The label supply has
run out or is improperly installed.
Replace or reinstall the label
supply, making sure that the
label supply covers the sensors

page 16 and Figure 2-1“Make
sure the sensors are covered.”
on page 18.
If the problem persists, follow
cleaning instructions shown in
“Cleaning the Sensors” on
page 88.
