WhatisExhaustGasRecirculation(EGR)?
YourCASECONSTRUCTIONmachineisequippedwithadditionalcomponentstocomplywithnationalandlocal
exhaustemissionsrequirements.EGRworksbyrecirculatingaportionoftheenginesexhaustgassesbackintothe
engine’scombustionchambertolowercombustiontemperatures.
ThemaincomponentsoftheEGRsysteminclude:

WhatisaDieselParticulateFilter(DPF)?
ADieselParticulateFilter(DPF)isaltermountedintheexhauststream.Duringnormaloperatingconditions,the
exhaustgassespassthroughtheporouswallsoftheDPFandtrapParticulateMatter(PM)generatedbythecombus-
tionprocessoftheengine.WhenchannelsinsidetheDPFllupwithPM,thesystemmustbecleaned.Thecleaning
processiscalledRegeneration.
Howdoestheregenerationprocesswork?
WhentheDPFbecomesrestricted,thesystemwillneedtobecleanedorregeneratedbyraisingexhausttemperatures
toburnoffthetrappedParticulateMatter(PM).Thisprocessisusuallydoneautomatically,butmayrequireamanual
regenerationsequencetobeactivateddependingonoperatingconditions.BurnedPMwillleavebehindtracesofash
withintheDPF .TheashmustbecleanedoutbyaCASECONSTRUCTIONdealeroutttedwithmachinesspecically
designedtocleanDPFsystems.InseverecasestheDPFmayneedtobereplaced.RefertotheMaintenanceChart
onpage7-23forserviceintervals.
Automaticregeneration
WhentheDPFentersautomaticregenerationmode,thedisplaywillindicate“DPFON”,severalconditionsneedto
befollowedtoproperlyletthemachineperformthisfunction.
•
Duringthismodedonotidleorshutthemachinedown.Allowtheregenerationprocesstonish.
•
Hotexhaustgasseswillbegenerated,useinwellventilatedareaawayfromcombustiblematerials.
•
Usethemachineundernormalworkscenariosuntiltheautomaticregenerationprocesshascompleted.
Manualregenerationorforcedregeneration
WhenautomaticregenerationoftheDPFisunsuccessfultheEngineControlUnit(ECU)willinitiatethemanual
regenerationprocess.Duringthemanualregenerationmode,thedisplaywillindicate“DPFON”,severalconditions
needtobefollowedtoproperlyletthemachineperformthisfunction.

Duringthismode,themachinewillbeunusable
•
Movethemachinetoasafeplaceawayfromcombustiblematerials.
•
Hotexhaustgasseswillbegenerated,useinwellventilatedareaawayfromcombustiblematerials.
•
Allowtheregenerationtonishbeforeshuttingthemachineoff.
