Audience
The target audience for this reference guide consists of:
Administrators that are responsible for configuring and managing a NetDefendOS installation.
Administrators that are responsible for troubleshooting a NetDefendOS installation.
This guide assumes that the reader is familiar with NetDefendOS and understands the fundamentals
of IP network security.
Notation
The following notation is used throughout this reference guide when specifying the parameters of a
log message:
Angle Brackets <name>
Used for specifying the name of a log message parameter.
Square Brackets [name]
Used for specifying the name of a conditional log message
parameter.
Example 1. Log Message Parameters
Log Message New configuration activated by user <username>, and committed via <authsystem>
Parameters authsystem
username
Both the authsystem and the username parameters will be included.
Example 2. Conditional Log Message Parameters
Log Message Administrative user <username> logged in via <authsystem>. Access level: <access_level>
Parameters authsystem
username
access_level
[userdb]
[server_ip]
[server_port]
[client_ip]
[client_port]
The authsystem, username and the access_level parameters will be included. The other parameters of userdb,
server_ip, server_port, client_ip and client_port may or may not be included, depending on the context of the log
message.
