Cylinder Head / Valve
Remove the valve spring, valve cotter, retainer,
spring, and valve.
Tool: Valve spring compressor
To prevent the loss of tension, do not compress
the valve springs more than necessary to
remove the cotters.
Mark all parts during disassembly so they can
be placed back in their original locations.
Remove the valve stem seals and valve spring
seals, remove the carbon deposits from the
combustion chamber.
Cylinder Head
Clean off the head gasket surface.
Avoid damaging the gasket surfaces.
Remove the gasket, dowel pins, and cam chain
guide from the cylinder.
Cylinder Head Disassembly
Loosen the pivot bolt and remove the cam
chain tensioner.
Remove the carburetor insulator.
Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head.
Remove the spark plug cover from the cylinder
head.
