SAS Disk Drives
There are four SAS disk drive slots on the BL870c server blade. The SAS disk drives have identical
LEDs that show the drive status and activity.
Figure 3 shows the slot numbers of the SAS hard disk drives.

SAS Backplane
The SAS disk backplane supports four small form factor (SFF) 2.5 inch hard drives. The SAS
backplane supports hot-plugging a single SAS drive at a time. A preprogrammed system-on-chip
(PSOC) controls the SAS disk drive activity and status LEDs. The system board hosts the SAS
controller, and supplies 12 V, 5 V, and 3.3 V standby power to the SAS backplane. The SAS
backplane is a field-replaceable unit.
The SAS backplane is connected to the system board with a straight connector. Power, Sense, and

C signals are routed through this connector as well as the serial general purpose input/output
(SGPIO) signals.
