Chapter 2. Central processor complex hardware components 37
򐂰 Two Bulk Power Assemblies (BPAs) that house the power components, with one in the
front and the other in the rear of the system. Each BPA is equipped with up to three Bulk
Power Regulators (BPRs), a controller, and two distributor cards. The number of BPRs
varies depending on the configuration of the z13s servers. For more information see , “The
Top Exit I/O Cabling feature adds 15 cm (6 in.) to the width of the frame and about 60 lbs
(27.3 kg) to the weight.” on page 371.
򐂰 Two side by side System Control Hubs (SCHs) that are the replacement for the Bulk Power
Hubs that were used in previous z Systems and provide the internal communication
among the various system elements.
򐂰 Up to two CPC drawers. At least one CPC drawer must be installed, referenced as
drawer 1. The additional one can be installed above the first CPC drawer, and is
referenced as drawer 0.
A Model N10 CPC drawer contains one node, consisting of two processor unit Single
Chip Modules (PU SCMs) and one storage controller SCM (SC SCM) and the
associated memory slots.
The N10 model is always the single CPC drawer.
Model N20 CPC drawer contains two nodes, four PU SCMs and two SC SCMs.
The N20 model can be a one or two CPC drawers system.
Memory dual inline memory modules (DIMMs), point of load regulators, and fanout
cards for internal and external connectivity
򐂰 A newly designed swing tray that is in front of the I/O drawer slots, and contains the
keyboards and displays that connect to the two SEs.
򐂰 Combinations of PCIe and I/O drawers are shown in Table 2-1. The older I/O drawer can
only be carried forward by way of upgrade from previous systems z114 or zBC12. The
number of CPC drawers and PCIe and InfiniBand fanouts are also shown. The general
rule is that the number of CPC drawers plus the number of PCIe and I/O drawers cannot
be greater than four due to power restrictions.
