Heating the end gates is also accomplished using
the Electric Heat Control box located above the main
screed if equipped with this option. (Figure 4-54)

To operate the electric screed heating system:
1. Start the paver and idle until the engine reaches
normal operating temperature.
2. Raise the screed plate one or two inches off the
ground.
3. Turn the electric heat control box power on. (Figure
4-56)
• Push the switch UP to select MANUAL screed
heat operation.
• Push the switch DOWN to select AUTO screed
heat operation (if equipped with the Automatic
Temperature Control option).
4. Press the Start Heat button to begin the heating
cycle. The engine will automatically go to 1900
RPMs. You can press the button again to reheat the
screed as needed.
• The HEAT ON indicator light will illuminate and
stay on as long as the element is heating the
screed. The left light illuminates when the left
screed elements are heating; the right light
illuminates when the right screed elements are
heating.
NOTE: The factory-set heat cycle is 20 minutes,
which should generate enough heat to begin
the paving process.
• While joysticks are in neutral, both sides of the
screed are heating.
• When joysticks are out of neutral, the elements
automatically cycle every two minutes from side
to side to decrease the load to half.
NOTE: If equipped with this option, the heated
endgates work independently of the main
screed and do not cycle.
5. If the heat cycle has completed but the screed
plates still require heating, restart the cycle by
repeating Step 4.
NOTE: When the start heat button is pressed, it
starts an internal timer that controls the Auto
Throttle feature. This will allow the engine
to automatically throttle to 1900 RPMs when
out of neutral, and will go back to idle upon
return to neutral as long as the generator is
not heating.
