DEF InfoDEF Info
DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a
mixture of pure urea and de-
ionized water that is injected into
the exhaust stream by the SCR
system that is critical to engine
operation. (Refer to Pages 5-22
and 5-23 for important, detailed
DEF information.)
When a DEF issue occurs, an alert will appear on the
PV485 screen notifying the operator of the specic
event. The DEF icon shown may appear in the top
banner of the screen, and will change color and/or ash
as described on the following pages.
Pressing the DEF Info button navigates to the main DEF
information screen for detailed information about the
event. You can navigate to the DEF main screen at any
time to check the status of DEF, including DEF tank level,
temperature, pressure, and alert information described
on the following pages.
DEF Purge: The SCR system will automatically purge
DEF after shutting down the engine. You will hear the
pumping noise as the system circulates DEF to cool
the DEF injector, then the pump reverses to return DEF
back to the tank. Always allow this purging process to
nish to prevent damage to the injector and other SCR
components.
NEVER disconnect battery until the
purge cycle has completed to prevent serious
damage to components in the SCR system.
