Figure 5-14. Generator Flow Control Adjuster
Adjusting the ow-control adjuster on the front of the
manifold controls speed of the generator. (Figure 5-14)
NOTE: The integrated ow-control manifold is pre-
set and will maintain the generator at it’s
proper speed if the correct amount of oil is
supplied to the set. If the temperature of the
hydraulic system rises above 160°F, some
slippage may occur through the gear set of
the generator motor, and the generator may
slow slightly.
Improper adjusting will overspeed and
cause damage to the generator.
To perform this adjustment:
• Locate the Flow Control Adjuster and turn to increase
or decrease the speed as needed.
• Turning clockwise will decrease the generator speed.
Turning counterclockwise will increase the generator
speed.
If the generator will not operate at the correct speed,
test the hydraulic ow from the pump or check the
generator motor for excessive case drain ow. The
case drain should not leak more than one gallon per
minute. Replace the generator motor or paver pump if
either are operating incorrectly.
Generator Capacitor
Replacement
There are no other voltage adjustments that can be
made to the generator.
The capacitor controls and regulates voltage while the
machine operates. If the capacitor fails, the voltage will
drop below or no output at all. (Figure 5-13)
If experiencing a drop in voltage, replacing the capacitor
will help determine if the capacitor is at fault.
To perform this procedure:
1. Shut down the machine.
2. Detach the wires on top of the capacitor.
3. Remove the capacitor and replace with new one.
4. Reattach wires.
Screed Electric Heat Elements
The electric heat control box contains the element
breakers and main outputs for the screed heating
system. Powered by 220VAC and 240VAC, each
element has two breakers. (Figure 5-15)
The control box consists of three major types of
components:
• The system timer is located in the upper left hand
corner of the box.
• The element relays are located in the upper right hand
corner of the box.
• The element breakers are located in the lower surface
of the box.
The other block in the center is used as a wire junction
block only. Refer to the wiring schematic at the end
of this manual, and you will note how the following
connections are made.
NOTE: Control boxes are manufactured to t all
screed and paver combinations. If not all
plugs are connected to wires, it may be
normal. Be sure to keep open plugs with the
plug terminator(s).
