Connecting Rod — Piston
Disassembly

Connecting rods are manufactured by a process
in which the cap and rod are cast together. New
rods for service arrive with caps attached. The
cap must be separated by holding the rod in a
soft-jawed vise and striking the cap with a
rubber-faced hammer. Care must be taken to
prevent damage to the rod, cap and bearing
surfaces.

Connecting rod screws on the left side of the
engine are 22 mm (0.866 inch) apart. On the right
side, they are 21 mm (0.827 inch) apart.
1. The word, Front, faces
the front of the engine.
2. The notches must be
aligned.
3. The numbers must agree
and be aligned on the
same side. (The
numbers may appear on
either side.)
