CAMSHAFT BENCH
PROCEDURES
Camshaft Inspection
[213 CH]
There are two configurations of camshafts for the
MP7 engine: without
engine brake and with
engine brake. For the engine brake option,
additional lobes are required on the cams that
operate the exhaust valves.
CAMSHAFT GEAR REMOVAL
Handle the camshaft carefully to avoid bending it.
Slight but harmful bends can go unnoticed.
Failure to heed this caution may result in
premature engine failure.
The vibration damper and camshaft timing gear
are separate components attached to the shaft by
the same screws.
The timing gear and vibration damper can be
removed while the camshaft is on the cylinder
head.
1. Support the vibration damper and camshaft
gear while removing the attaching screws.
2. Remove the attaching screws.
3. Separate the vibration damper and gear
from the camshaft.
