3. Remove the valve yokes (bridges).
The valve yokes must be installed on the same
set of valves that they were removed from. Before
removing the valve yokes, mark them to identify
their location and orientation. An incorrectly
installed valve yoke causes severe engine
damage due to a dropped valve. For proper valve
yoke removal and installation, refer to the
appropriate sections in this service manual.

4. Remove the screws securing the unit
injector harness tie bar to the cylinder head.
Slide the tie bar outward to provide sufficient
clearance for the valve stem height
measurement gauge to be installed over the
valve springs. Do not disconnect the
harness connectors from the unit injectors or
cut the tie straps that secure the harness to
the tie bar.

5. Set the depth micrometer to 8.10 mm
(0.319 inch) to measure stem protrusion.
