7.7.7 Lubricating longitudinal drive shafts

Check all drive shafts to see if they have grease nipples.
Drive shafts with grease nipples must be serviced, drive shafts without
grease nipples are maintenance-free.
Grease, spare
parts, tools
– Grease gun from the tool set.
Prer
equisites – The truck crane must be raised on outriggers or parked over an inspection
pit.
– The engine must not be running and must be
secured against unauthor-
ised use;

Greasing
The drive shaft (2) is fitted only to the 6x6x6
drive.
• Check which drive shafts (1) and (2) have
lubricating nipples (3).
• Clean the grease nipples (3).
• Inject grease into the grease nipples until
grease escapes from the bearing points. Do
not inject grease with excessive force, other-
wise the lip seals may be damaged.
• Remove any grease that has escaped.
