7.7.6 Lubricating the drive shafts in the axle lines

Check all drive shafts to see if they have grease nipples.
Drive shafts with grease nipples must be serviced, drive shafts without
grease nipples are maintenance-free.

– The engine must not be running and
must be secured against unauthor-
ised use;

– The wheels must be turned as far as they will go, so that the lubricating
nipples on the sides of the final drives are more easily accessible.
Greasing
Drive shafts (2) are fitted only to the 6 x 6 x 6
drive.
• Check which drive shafts (1) and (2) have
lubricating nipples (3).
• Clean the grease nipples (3).
• Inject grease into the grease nipples until
grease escapes from the bearing points.
Do not inject grease with excessive force,
otherwise the lip seals may be damaged.
• Remove any grease that has escaped.
