4.15 Function blocks for the “fast counters” function
The AXC 3050 supports the “fast counters” function. This means that the controller can han-
dle any number of inputs in the Axioline F local bus as fast inputs and can start counters
and/or event tasks with these inputs.
Up to two counters (counter 1 and 2: 4 inputs each from one or two Axioline I/O modules)
can be used for the evaluation of fast counter pulses.
In the PC Worx software, the counters are represented by the identical CNT1 and CNT2
function blocks. The DIR, RESET, and ENABLE inputs of the function block can be used to
define presets for the counting direction, reset of the counter status, and start of the count-
ing process.
Alternatively presets can be defined by the level at the assigned inputs of the Axioline I/O
module(s). In this case, the appropriate counter mode must be specified at the MODE input
of the function block (refer to Section “Counter operating modes” on page 90).

NOTE: Triggering a watchdog is possible in the controller
When using both possible function block instances with the setting “Event_Value = 1”, the
following applies:
Under increased CPU load and high event frequency, the assigned event tasks may re-
quire a watchdog to be triggered in the AXC 3050.
If presets are defined by the level at the assigned inputs of the Axioline I/O module, the
corresponding input at the function block is inactive. This applies for the DIR and ENABLE
inputs. The RESET input is ORed to the assigned input of the Axioline I/O module for in-
ternal processing.
