5. Inspect the ring gear for abnormal wear, broken, or chipped
teeth. Spin the bearing to check the ball bearings for
smoothness. Replace the bearing if needed.
6. Remove the input shaft cover and the pinion shaft from the
gearcase housing. See next page.

Reassembly
1. Inspect the pinion shaft bushing for wear.
2. Replace all O-rings, seals, and worn components.
3. Install the pinion shaft into the gearcase housing. Install the
pinion shaft cover and torque the cover bolts to
specification.
