12.3 Measure Insertion Loss (2-point and 5-point
method)
Insertion loss (unit: dB) is calculated by measuring the signal level of Rayleigh backscatter
(RBS) and the magnitude of reduction. Insertion loss can be created by reflection and
non-reflection events.
System calculates real timely the loss between Marker A and B, and also calculates the
insertion loss at Marker A or B. Insertion loss is calculated in 5-point method.
2-point method (A-B Loss):
Insertion loss is calculated as shown in Fig. 12.2.
Fig. 12.2 2-point Loss
2-point method is suitable for measuring splice loss but not applicable to measuring
reflection events.
”A-B Lossis for quick loss measurement of certain segment of the fiber marked
between Marker A and B.
”A-B Loss” is not applicable to measuring reflection events.
