After the MLG-2 is integrated in PROFINET, the following steps can be performed:
•
T
he ML
G-2 device name can be set
•
The device name can be used in the PLC
•
Parameters can be set for the MLG-2
•
Modules can be set for the process data
10.1.2 GSDML file
Common configuration tools (e.g., the TIA Portal V13 from Siemens) require a GSDML
f
ile f
or integration of the devices into the network. The GSDML file is available for down‐
load from www.sick.de.
The GSDML file of the MLG-2 has a modular layout (see "Object library", page 80).
Refer to your configuration tool's documentation for how to import the file into your sys‐
tem.
A configuration module is available in the GSDML.
Device configuration via the configuration module in the GSDML is not absolutely
required. That means the configuration module must only be attached if no other
option for configuring the MLG-2 is used.
Other options are:
•
SOAPS ET
•
Service data/acyclical data via PROFINET
•
Direct use of TCP/IP interface
If the configuration module is still used in these cases, these settings are overwritten by
the settings in the configuration module as soon as the PLC restarts.
NOTE RECOMMENDATION
Tha
t means the configuration module of the GSDML should only be attached if no other
option for device configuration is used.
10.1.3 Function blocks
You can use function blocks for communication between a programmable logic con‐
tr
oller and the MLG-2.
Prerequisites
•
The function blocks and their documentation can be downloaded from
www.sick.de.
°
Function block STEP7 V5 PROFINET for MLG-2 ProNet
°
Function block STEP7 V12 (TIA Portal) PROFINET for MLG-2 ProNet
•
The MLG-2 must be integrated in the control.
Import and wiring
In order to be able to use the function block in the development software, you need to
import the component into a project.
Then call up the function block and wire it. It is only possible to read parameters out
from or write them into the MLG-2 after valid wiring has been completed.

10.2.1 Overview
The MLG-2 has an EtherCAT
®
slav
e controller for communication with the master. This
writes the input data determined for the master into the communication message.
