6.2.1.6 Algorithm and splice correction
The following breaker centering algorithms are available:
Side guiding
Splice guiding
A combination of side and splice guiding
The used algorithm is specified with the Algorithm selection parameter as follows:
0% = side guiding
In general, used for breakers with angles larger than 45°.
100% = splice guiding
Recommended for wide breaker material (> 300 mm).
200% = breaker LE side guiding and breaker TE splice guiding using the measured
LE angle.
In addition linear combinations of these algorithms can be used. For example:
50% = 50% of the total splice area will be centered using side guiding. The other 50 %
of the splice area will be centered using splice guiding.
This results in alternating between splice and side guiding every sample.
75% = alternating between, 3 samples splice guiding and 1 sample side guiding.
The breaker centering quality depends on the selected algorithm in combination with the
material quality and the centering speed.
Tests have proven that good centering results are obtained using splice guiding in
combination with a centering speed of 300 mm/s.
NOTICE
When you have poor material quality (indicated by strong width fluctuation) it is
recommended that you use side guiding (Algorithm selection = 0%).
When you are using wide breaker material (> 400 mm) it is recommended that you
use breaker LE side guiding and breaker TE splice guiding (Algorithm selection =
200%).
Side guiding (Algorithm selection = 0%)
In the Leading End and Trailing End, the centering set point is the straight edge of
the breaker material.
