Cylinder head
Removing the cylinder head
1. Remove the spark plugs, thermostat
cover, thermostat and thermoswitch.
2. Remove the cylinder head cover bolts 1.
3. Remove the cylinder head bolts in the
sequence shown.

Do not scratch or damage the mating sur-
faces of the cylinder head and cylinder
block.
Checking the cylinder head
1. Eliminate carbon deposits from the com-
bustion chambers and check for deterio-
ration or corrosion.
2. Check the cylinder head warpage using a
straightedge 1 and thickness gauge 2
in four directions as shown. Replace if
above specification.
Removing the exhaust cover
1. Remove the exhaust cover bolts in the
sequence shown.
Checking the exhaust cover
1. Check the exhaust cover for distortion or
corrosion. Replace if necessary.
Installing the pressure control valve
1. Install the pressure control valve 1 with
the its longer side facing towards the
cylinder head.
