To wire equipment to the XFC
G5
serial communication ports, determine the COMM port to use, insert
the correct communication module type in the available slot, then refer to the generic wiring drawings
or pinout tables.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Use pins on both terminal blocks to wire COMM1 or COMM2 on the
XFC
G5
. Remove both terminal block connectors from the board to wire based on
communication type. For RS-232, refer to Figures below (COMM1), (COMM2), and Table 5-3.
For RS-485, refer to Figure 5-3 (COMM1), Figure 5-4 (COMM2) and Table 5-4

IMPORTANT NOTE: Typically, only TXD, RXD and GND may be required to communicate
with a third-party RS-232 device. The figure above illustrates all lines associated with the
COMM1 or COMM2 RS-232 module.
