Chapter 7 Installing Internal Options
7.4.4 Defective Memory Disconnection Function
This server has a defective memory disconnection function.
This function disconnects the memory block (two DIMMs) judged to be defective (causing an error)
during Power On Self Test (POST) to start the server. When POST is executed, if the memory capacity
is discovered to be smaller than the capacity of the memory installed, a memory module may be
defective.
You can check the slot where the defective memory module is located during POST or from the system
event log.
If a defective memory module is discovered, replace it, and then restart the server.
Replace the defective memory module with a new memory module according to "7.4.3 How to Install
or Remove Memory Modules" (pg.192).
After replacing the memory module, make sure to start the BIOS Setup Utility and check that [Module
nA/B/C/D] (nA/B/C/D =slot number) corresponding to the replaced memory module is set to "Enabled"
in "8.1.14 The Memory Status Submenu" (pg.249) on the Server menu.
If it is set to "Disabled" or "Failed", change the memory status to "Enabled". If the setting is not
changed to "Enabled", the server will start with the new memory module still marked as defective and
always disconnected.
By changing the setting to "Enabled", the defective memory status is cancelled and the new memory
module can be used at the next start of the server.
