4.3.4 Sub-Function “ Advanced Read ”
Denition
Advanced function helping to achieve further diagnosis in more complex scenarios.
Purpose :
Thisfunctionallowssettingtheltertoindicatewhichstatusbittoconsiderwhenreadingfaults.II The
regularReadFaultfunctionwillonlydisplayconrmedfaults.
Usage :
• Analyzetheconditionsthatcouldhavecontributedtotriggeringtheconrmedfault.
• Checkiftestsarecompletedfollowingaclearfault(repair)andafterperformingdrivecycles(if
applicable).
• Especiallyinterestinginthepresenceofintermittentproblems.
Principle :
Createaltertoguideandimposevericationsonaspecicsystem.
CAUTION
The Advanced Read function should be used only by knowled-
geable people or professional automotive technicians. It is a
complement to assist in the diagnosis of more complex pro-
blems.
II Access
To access the “Advanced Read” sub-function using the Integrated or PC Interfaces, it is required to
selectthe“ReadFault”functionrst(seeMenuTreeAppendix).
The user can decide for each status bit, in order, if it must be considered (equal to 1) during the fault
reading. Press the button to select the bit and to ignore it. Once completed, the IIDTool will
proceed with scanning each ECU to see if there are faults stored in memory having at least one active
status bits (1 or “ON”). Consult section 4.3.3formoredetailsonstatusbitsdenitions.
Example: If bit 0, Test Failed and Bit 2 Pending are selected, all faults that have at least one of these
bits equal to 1 will appear in the fault list.
