5.7.2 Pressure Support in detail
1 2 3
SVS-9004_XX
1. Pressure Support assures that a preset
inspiratory pressure level is constantly
maintained upon patient effort.
2. The preset pressure level is controlled by
the ventilator, while the patient determines
frequency and inspiration time.
3. Inspiration starts when the patient triggers
a breath, gas flows into the lungs at a
constant pressure. Since the pressure
provided by the ventilator is constant, the
flow will decrease until the End inspiration
is reached.
Expiration starts:
a. When the inspiratory flow decreases below
a preset fraction of the inspiratory peak
flow (End inspiration)
b. If the upper pressure limit is exceeded.
c. If the maximum time for inspiration is
exceeded.
d. If the flow drops to a range between 25 %
of peak flow and the lower limit for End
inspiration, and remains within the range
for a period longer than 50% of the time
elapsing between inspiration start and the
point when the range was entered.
