If your computer came with a CD-ROM drive, it is
attached to Local Bus connector 2 and is set as a master
device.
Guidelines for attaching additional
IDE/AT interface drives
• If only one drive is attached to a connector, it must
be set as a master device.
• On each connector, there can be only one drive set
as the master device and one drive set as the slave
device.
• A maximum of four IDE drives can be attached to
your computer, two on Local Bus connector 1, and
two on Local Bus connector 2.
• If a hard disk shares the same connector with a drive
that requires a software device driver (such as a
CD-ROM drive), the hard disk should be set as the
master device.
If a CD-ROM drive came with your computer, the
following pictures show how to set the CD-ROM jumper
on the back of the drive to make it a master or slave
device. If you have attached another type of drive to
Local Bus connector 2, see the documentation that came
with that drive to find the jumper location and
instructions for setting it.

Diskette interface drives
Two drives can be attached to the Diskette connector
with the proper cables. All drives attached to the
Diskette connector should be set to the Drive 1 address.
You set this address with a switch on the drive.
