Installing cache memory
You can install up to 512K of cache memory in your sys-
tem board.If cache memory modules are not already
installed on your system board, you can install 512K of
cache memory.
Read the following instructions
before installing or
upgrading cache memory.
If you have a desktop system, you may
have to remove installed adapter cards
and the drive and bracket installed in bay
1. For instructions on removing adapter
cards, see page 92. For instructions on
removing the drive and bracket in bay 1,
see page 98.
If you have a minitower system, you may
have to remove installed adapter cards
and the drive in bay 5. Follow the
instructions on page 113 to remove the
adapter cards. For instructions on
removing the drive in bay 5, see page 122.
note:
Each cache memory module you install must
have these specifications: 160 pin; 64 bit; 256
(32Kx64); 15ns; asynchronous SRAM; 32Kx8;
12ns; tag SRAM.
To install a cache memory module:
1. Locate the two cache memory module sockets.

The following step gives general instructions for
installing a cache memory module. Read the
steps, then read the specific instructions for
installing either 256K, 512K or upgrading from
256K to 512K of cache memory as appropriate.
