Working with your system board
How to begin
FOR YOUR SAFETY, follow these simple
precautions:
1. Turn off the system unit, monitor, and any external
options (such as a printer).
2. Disconnect the telephone cord and any other cords
and cables attached to the system unit, but do not
disconnect the system unit power cord yet, or
unplug it from the electrical outlet.
3. Remove the monitor from the system unit.
4. Remove the system unit cover:
a. Press on the upper left corner of the system
If you have a desktop system, see step 3 on
page 125 for instructions on removing the
cover.
If you have a minitower system, see step 5
on page 126 for instructions on removing
the cover.

b. Press up on the cover release latch. Slide the
cover off completely.
c. Go to step 6.
Important:
To prevent electrostatic charge from damaging
any part of your computer, touch the computer’s
bare metal frame before you unplug the system
unit, or wear an antistatic wrist strap while mak-
ing hardware changes.
