9.11 Intrinsically safe refractometers PR-23-...-IA
and PR-23-...-IF
Hazardous locations are places where a possibility of ire or explosion exists because
of lammable gases, vapors or ine dust.
Zone 0: An area in which an explosive gas-air mixture is continuously present
or present for long periods of time.
Zone 1: An area in which an explosive gas-air mixture is likely to occur in nor-
mal operation.
The K-Patents Intrinsically Safe Process Refractometer PR-23-...-IA/-IF can be used in
hazardous locations in Zone 0 and Zone 1 areas.
The PR-23-...-IA refractometers have been certiied by VTT under the European ATEX
directive 94/9/EC for ATEX Ex II 1G and Ex I M1 / Ex ia IIC T4 Ga and Ex ia I Ma
(T
amb
= -20 + 65°C) and under the IECEx scheme for Ex ia IIC T4 Ga and Ex ia
I Ma (T
amb
= -20 +65°C). The EC Type-examination Certiicate number is VTT 07
ATEX065X and the IECEx Certiicate number is IECEx VTT 08.0004X. These certiica-
tions cover the following Ex standards: EN 60079-0:2012 / IEC 60079-0:2011 and
EN 60079-11:2012 / IEC 60079-11:2011.
The PR-23-...-IF refractometer is certiied by FM under the United States standards
for IS/I/1/ABCD/T4 and I/0/AEx ia/IIC/T4 (T
amb
= -20 +45 °C) The cer-
tiicate ID Number is 3036400. This certiication covers the following US stan-
dards: class 3600 1998, class 3610:2007, class 3810:2005, ANSI/ISA-12.00.01:1999,

60529:2004.
The PR-23-...-IF refractometer is certiied by FM under the Canadian standards for
IS/I/1/ABCD/T4 and I/0/Ex ia/IIC/T4 (T
amb
= -20 +45 °C). The certiicate ID
Number is 3036400C. This certiication covers the following Canadian standards:
CSA C22.2 No. 94:1999, CSA C22.2 No. 142:2004, CSA C22.2 No. 157:2006, CSA

E60079-11:2002.
Note: Servicing of the intrinsically safe PR-23-...-IA/-IF refractometer is only allowed
for trained service personnel of K-Patents and its representatives. Servicing must be
done according to separate instructions deined by K-Patents and must be reported
to K-Patents.
9.11.1 Equipment
The K-Patents Intrinsically Safe Process Refractometer consists of: a modiied refrac-
tometer sensor PR-23-...-IA/-IF, an Indicating transmitter STR with single sensor con-
nectivity or a Multichannel user interface MI, and IS Isolator and cabling between the
