TheserverisdesignedsothatLEDsremainlitwhentheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebutis
notturnedon,providedthatthepowersupplyisoperatingcorrectly.Thisfeaturehelpsyoutoisolatethe
problemwhentheoperatingsystemisshutdown.
Note:Whenyoudisconnectthepowersourcefromtheserver,youlosetheabilitytoviewtheLEDsbecause
theLEDsarenotlitwhenthepowersourceisremoved.Beforeyoudisconnectthepowersource,make
anoteofwhichLEDsarelit,includingtheLEDsthatarelitontheoperationinformationpanelandLEDs
insidetheserveronthesystemboard.
Manyerrorsarefirstindicatedbyalitsystem-errorLEDonthecontrol-panelassemblyoftheserver.Ifthis
LEDislit,oneormoreLEDselsewhereintheservermightalsobelitandcandirectyoutothesource
oftheerror.
BeforeyouworkinsidetheservertoviewtheLEDs,readthe“Safety”onpagev
and“Handling
static-sensitivedevices”onpage35.
Ifanerroroccurs,viewtheserverLEDsinthefollowingorder:
1.Checkthecontrol-panelassemblyonthefrontoftheserver.Ifthesystem-errorLEDislit,itindicates
thatanerrorhasoccurred.
2.CheckthefrontandrearoftheservertodeterminewhetheranycomponentLEDsarelit.
3.RemovetheservertopcoverandlookinsidetheserverforlitLEDs.Certaincomponentsinsidethe
serverhaveLEDsthatwillbelittoindicatethelocationofaproblem.Forexample,aDIMMerrorwill
lighttheLEDnexttothefailingDIMMonthesystemboard.
4.Lookatthesystemservicelabelinsidethetopcoveroftheserver,whichgivesanoverviewofinternal
components.Thisinformationcanoftenprovideenoughinformationtocorrecttheerror.
